Mary Runner

Seeking to add more depth and expression to her art, Mary

Runner began working in encaustics. She became enthrall-ed by the luminosity and transparency of the medium. The wax seemed to be filled with endless possibilities. Today, the results of this investiga-tion have paid off. Evidenced

in her beautiful abstract creations, we find work celebrating and pushing the boundaries of encaustics’ innately beautiful, subtle qualities.

Whether in encaustic or cold wax painting, the layers of her work bring out a complex, organic expression of life. Simple, bold colors rise above subdued patterns and marks. Her focus is on those times of transition and creation.

Runner has participated in several shows, including the annual San Antonio Uptown Art Stroll and the San Antonio College Library Exhibit, Fall 2013.

Runner studied art at Morehead State University in Kentucky. She and her family live in a log cabin near Poteet, Texas, where she has room to play in her own studio.
